Although the line between a laptop and an ultrabook is sometimes hard to spot, it is categorized by slim machines capable of performing all kinds of office tasks. Usually, they offer a pleasant design while being lightweight and feature-packed. All these laptops in the list are specially created for people that seek to improve their productivity while they are always on the go. Whit these machines, they can enjoy video playback and browsing the Web in excellent conditions, for a longer period of time. HP Specter

With the Specter, Hewlett Packard hit very hard. By offering an ultrabook with a luxurious design, the company has managed its debut in a beautiful way. With a thickness of 10.4 mm, it was introduced as the world’s thinnest laptop. Its measurements do not prevent it from embarking a powerful Intel Core i5-6200U (possibility of opting for an i7). It is suited for all kinds of office tasks, even photo editing and video editing. This utlrabook features a high quality screen that is very well calibrated and it is constructed with premium parts. MacBook Pro 2017

Although it is currently being seriously challenged by other models in this list, the MacBook 2017 remains a very good notebook. The reasons for its long dominance in this segment are always the same. It has a great range of autonomy, a perfectly balanced screen, a very good trackpad and a light weight (with 1.37 kilograms on the balance for the 13-inch version), but we regret a rather weak connectivity . The use of the Core i7 allows you to benefit from a significant power gain, although it does not justify a new purchase if you have that of last year. The keyboard stroke is slightly shorter, which can dislodge some of them. The finishes are, as always, excellent.

Ultrabook features that we love:

  • Operating system: OS X El Capitan
  • Display: 13.3 or 15.4 inches (2,560 x 1,600 pixels or 2,880 x 1,800 pixels)
  • Storage: 256 GB or 512 GB of integrated PCIe flash storage
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 quad-core clocked at 2.9 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB of memory
  • GPU: Radeon Pro 555 or 560
  • Presence of a touch bar

Things to consider:

  • Windows 10 can be installed via Bootcamp, but it doesn’t run flawlessly.
  • A bit heavy for my taste: 3 lbs

The MacBook 2017 is available at prices starting $1300.

Zenbook 3 UX390UA-GS007R

It’s been a while since Asus offers good models of ultrabooks, but the Zenbook 3 marks a break and needs to be taken into consideration if you decide to buy a new ultrabook. This is one beautiful ultrabook released this year. Its design is refined, especially with a 6013 aluminum body. This means that it is more resistant than the traditional alu. Also, the device is dressed in a golden outline that gives you a glimpse to the fineness of the edges. The display is very rich in color and can reproduce up to 111% of the sRGB spectrum. With a weight of 950 grams and 0.46 inch thick, it is also the lightest ultrabook in our list.

But don’t be fooled by the weight or its size. This does not affect its performance since it is equipped with an i7 Kaby Lake processor which allows it to have the power necessary to run all types of apps. Its large 512 GB SSD hard drive allows you to install all your important software and run them with perfectly. The device holds about 8 hours in web browsing and fast charging, which is acceptable. The keyboard and touchpad are soft and precise and the sound system is impressive despite the small size of the device. Once again, ASUS succeeded.

Ultrabook features that we love:

  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Display: 12.5-inch Full HD IPS display (1920 x 1,080) with 178° viewing angles
  • Storage: 512 GB of SSD storage
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7500U 6th generation
  • RAM: 16 GB of DDR4 RAM memory
  • GPU: Intel HD 620 graphics card
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Weight: 2.1 lbs (950 grams)
Things to consider:
  • Only Full HD rezolution
  • It gets hot if used when charging

The Zenbook 3 is available for under $1000 at the time I am writing this article, making it cheaper than other ultrabooks in this list.

Dell XPS 13

Under its rather banal but far from displeasing design, the new version of the Dell XPS 13 hides a beautiful quality of manufacture. Its strength lies in its matte Full HD or QHD + screen with ultra-thin edges. Its features a 7th generation i5-7200U that offers enough power to run all the business apps you can think of.

The SSD provides a fast standby output, which is ideal for mobile use. Special mention for its good autonomy, and its contained weight of 1.29 kilos. We also appreciate its extralarge touchpad, which is pleasant to use. Dell delivers a balanced machine that should accompany you for a while.

Razer Blade Stealth

Although Razer is specialized in gaming computers, they also designed ultra-portable computer. The device has an aesthetic that is similar to the other machines released by the brand – it is colored. Razer Blade Stealth has a nice finish. Its i7 latest generation is coupled with 16 GB of RAM that allows it to run any kind of office tasks, even the heaviest. It is certainly not intended for gaming, but it will still turn old titles if you lower the level of details or resolution. This one is a nice addition for nomadic gamers that are not too pretentious.

This utlrbook is also compatible with the Razer Core, a solution that allows you to plug a genuine desktop graphics card onto the computer, and engage in long sessions while enjoying a great screen. The screen borders are rather thick and naturally offer less visual space than its competitors in this list. Its backlit Chroma keyboard supports antighosting and has a particularly pleasant striking.

Best ultrabooks on the market: Final verdict

Finding the best ultrabook can become a real challenge, expecially when you try to put in balance the price, the battery life, the size, the weight and the performance. Personally, I would choose a laptop that has a great display, i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM and 512 SSD. Of course, the battery life is equally important. If you are on a tight budget, the Zenbook 3 is definitely your best bet. And it is also the lightest from the list. But to tell you the truth, I also love Lenovo Yoga 910 Premium 2-in-1 utlrabook.
