We all know what is like to go to the salon two times a month or maybe more, in order to get rid of that unwanted hair growing all over – thighs, arm pits, the private area or even on your face. What wouldn’t you give to avoid all that hustle and take care of your “hairy” situation in the privacy of your own home? No salon appointments, no high costs/session, less fuss and the same perfect results? I know I would take that offer immediately, without any hesitation. And that’s exactly what I did!
Just browsing the e-commerce sites, all random, I stumbled upon what proved to be the answer to my prayers – the incredibly efficient Phillips Lumea IPL SC1995/00, the home friendly IPL-based hair removal device! That same technology used in the salons was available for home usage, at the reasonably low price of 200 Euros. If you are lucky enough to catch a discount, you can make an even better deal!
Okay, so I bought it, reluctantly, I must admit, but only because it was the first time I was hearing about this technology being available outside of the professional salons, but the good price and my hopeful attitude got me to purchase it. And was I right! It does what it claims and maybe even more.
Phillips Lumea IPL SC1995/00 hair removal tips & tricks
I’ve used it for almost a year now, so I might be able to give you some piece of information that can help you decide if this device is suited for your needs or not. Based solely on my personal experience, these are a few tips & tricks that I deem useful for someone looking to make such a purchase:
- Do not act too courageous! Start with a low intensity, as it goes from 1 to 5, and grow it as you progress. Your skin will need time to adjust to the lights’ intensity. Of course, you will get to level 5, but it may be wiser to take it slow at first.
- Install the IPL World app. It reminds you of your next session and you can keep track of your progress.
- After the treatment, it’s a good idea to use thermal water, it helps soothing your skin. And after that, some body oil will do wonders for you.
- From another personal note, it is best to use this device in broad daylight. If you use it in the evening, the strong light might hurt your eyes, especially if you are photosensitive!
Moreover, Philips provides a chart that you will use in order to find out if this hair removal device is suited for your particular skin and hair color.
If you follow the instructions in the box and if you have the right skin type, according to the chart that you receive and also you have no dermatological problems, this device will be perfect for you.
120-day warranty return
But if you buy it and are unhappy with the product, Philips has the 120-day warranty, so you can return it after testing it on your skin. I, for one, have no intention of doing that.
Here is why:
Right after the first use, a good part of the hair started falling on its own, and other hairs become finer and with a substantial lower growth rate. Of course, I too checked the chart and I found that I’m the best candidate for this product: white skin with dark hair. So, the chart is a must check. If you are blonde with light hair, you will waste your money on this hair removal device.
No need for batteries
Another great thing that makes me so happy with the product is the fact that is has a wire, so you can plug it and use it for whatever long you need. This isn’t the case with similar devices which use the wireless technology, as they seem to get their battery depleted before you can finish your session. As of the actual results I got, after only 4 sessions my hair fell in proportion of 85% on my thighs, 100% on my armpits, 95% in my private area. I didn’t use it on my face, though, as I don’t really grow hair there.
Of course, nothing is perfect and neither is this product. I have a few things to reproach, especially in regard to the pain that you get to feel in certain areas. Maybe it’s just my sensitive skin, but I feel pinches on my thighs and in the private area, but not worse than what I felt when going to the salon.
Another thing that I am not crazy about is that sometimes this hair removal device heats up quite quickly, so I have to stop it until it cools down a bit. If you are not in a big hurry, this shouldn’t be a deal breaker, though. If time is of the essence, I must tell you that this isn’t the solution for you, as it is not the fastest way of getting rid of the unwanted hair. It may take you up to an hour to lose the hair all over your body.
The smell of burnt hair might bother you if you do not follow the instructions and do not trim your hair appropriately. Longer hair tends to burn and even pinch your skin a little. But that shouldn’t be a problem if you go by the book!
These are some of my thoughts on this device and, as I already stated, I have used such services at salons, I was very pleased with the result, and this Philips device gives me the same satisfaction as the salon. Evidently, some of my friends bought it as they saw me so hyped about it, and as far as they say, they are getting the same superb results as myself.
So, is it worth the $250 investment? It certainly does! It costs less than the salon appointments and you get the same hairless body with way less effort, without even leaving the comfort of your own home. What more can you ask for?
